Default Weird sound from the engine bay, then transmission locks itself to neutral

Hi guys. I have a 2000 5.9 automatic gasser that ran PERFECTLY since I bought until now.

My truck started to make this weird noise coming from engine bay. It makes that noise for 10-15 seconds, then locks itself in neutral. Nothing happens when I try to shift the gear.

The transmission fluid is overfilled (I checked when hot in neutral), but I don’t know taking off the liquid would solve the problem. I have a very limited budget so I want to see what are my DIY options are, if any.

What’s the reason for this issue?

I uploaded the video on Youtube so I’m just dropping it here: https://youtube.com/shorts/Hurfqcjhkiw?si=hCPcCB2KCDC0XOUd

I’m sorry for the camera noise in the video.

From what i can hear sounds like a whine. What does the fluid look like, Burnt/dark? When was the filter changed last? Any codes? Might want to pressure test it and see what you have.

I have never changed the filter. There is a code from check engine light but I gotta have a scanner for that. I’ll attach 2 photos of what transmission fluid look like. I tried to put some fluid when first happened, so I’m not sure if this is the new fluid, or old. Pictures is when it’s cold and not running.

I’ll check the pressure test. Thank you.

Try going to a local auto parts store and they may read the code for you for free, since they like to sell parts..

The code(s) might be very helpful in troubleshooting this issue..
