PCM on V10. replace, flash, swap?
i have a V10 2500 that was struck with lightning. i have some PCM's from other trucks (5.2/5.9) do you guys know if htey can be dealer flashed or is the PCM different physically?
if they cant be flashed, any risk in grabbing a used one for a couple hundred bucks on ebay?
is the PCM the only computer needed for hte truck to start? i know the cummins only needs the PCM/ECM to run.

What year truck do you have? You can swap some of the early year 2nd gen truck PCMs with a like for like part number, as they are plug and play. Later year 2nd gen trucks that have security systems aren't as easy and they need to have the VIN encoded in the PCM, too.
hmm, the donor would be a 98 and the v10 2500 is a 2001. pretty sure my scan tool has an option for vin numbers. worst case the dealer could encode with their starscan?
do you think the 5.2 woudl work in a V10 with programming?

But these 2nd gens are good when nature hits hard. I had my Dodge disconnected from the batterys as I didn't use it at the moment, so it survived the lightning strike. But my '06 E-series Mercedes, not so. Unfortunately, insurance didn't cover it so out of curiosity, I started fixing it. After replacing some 24 or so modules, it was finally road worthy. Luckily most of those modules were quite cheap, so it wasn't that bad financially. But yeah, I hate modern cars when there's things like that
