cranks a long time before starting
got the same prob on a 98 5.2L
mine starts fine when cold but if it has been driven takes a long time. then finally kicks over
took it to dodge, and mech took a listen, said it could be fuel pump

I had the same problem at about 60,000 miles. If I let off the key and tried again it would fire right up. Tried tune up with no luck. Went to dealer and they cleaned one of the injectors??. Within 2 months it would barely start to go to work. Managed to get it started at work and went straight to dealer. Was still under warranty. The fuel pump died 400 yards from dealer. Had to wait an hour and a half for dealers tow company to tow me within sight.
Would get fuel pump/pressure checked out.

problem is a check valve in the fuel pump assembly... turn the key on for 2 seconds & off and on for 2 seconds again, then try to start it. if it fires up every time, then your check valve in the pump is bad. it is there to keep fuel pressure up to help starting.

I haven't done the key test. But it cranks for a long time, but if I let it crank for a few seconds, then stop, it starts right up.
How much am I looking at to fix it? Maybe I'll do it on the already growing Spring Break list

well define a long start... mine is hard to start when its wicked cold out... hard to start meaning it cranks but pretty slow and takesa bout 3 secons to fire ... when it firsts fires it takes abouta second to get up to idle... like a slow steady pace to from dead stop to idle..
but when its warm out (say above 40deg) its easy to start .. even if its first thing in the morning... i think its just b/c its a cold blooded b*tch

if i turn key to ignition so i hear the fuel pump kick in, and then off, and then i try to start it..... it works... but if i just try to crank right of the bat it turns fast but for like 5-8 seconds
