I put one on my Dakota a year or so ago. I got it at AutoZone. You just need to know what size pipe you have. I really annoyed my neighbors with it.

I actually got a "Fixit" ticket when my old muffler fell off and a State Trooper behind me ran over it. I was under the truck installing the new unit when I saw a pair of polished wing tip shoes walk into my drive. That's the first time in decades I actually had a cop check on me. It was the Trooper who wrote the ticket. I think he lives near me.

Now, if you want mufflers that have a nice mellow tone, I've got Flowmaster 44's on my '96 Ram with the 5.9. The Dakota had the 3.9. The Ram has a nice tone that just sounds great. When the previous owner put them on though, he ran the pipes where the spare tire goes.

The glasspack/cherry bomb is REALLY loud! For a bit more money, I'd recommend Dynomax Ultraflo mufflers... They are have relatively quiet rumble as the RPMs climb, not annoying and flow extremely well - https://www.dynomax.com/mufflers/ult...elded-mufflers

I upgraded to a long 3" Dynomax Ultra Flo muffler after I added a catalytic converter with a 3" outlet so I could run 3" pipe from the cat to the rear of the truck.

I'm deaf as a post but yes, it did talk to me. A little quieter than straight pipes, but not much. When I was in high school, they had just come out and guys went with them as they are a muffler. Under the noise ordinance we had back then, a loud muffler got a "Fixit" ticket, which never got checked later. No muffler got towed. That's why I was surprised when the Trooper checked up on me. It's really a straight pipe with some baffles and fiberglass that broke the noise slightly but didn't restrict gasses flowing.

I do remember one guy getting cutesie and "Gassing" the muffler. He used a hole to pour a little gasoline down the pipe to burn the fiberglass out. There isn't much oxygen in the exhaust pipe so it didn't burn. However, he used a road flare to ignite it and there was a small hole in the pipe where he did a lousy job welding. Some gasoline dribbled out the hole and when he set the flare down, the fumes from the gas that leaked out ignited and he burned his car to the ground. Gassing the muffler doesn't make much difference so don't bother.
