Default PCM exchange
I have a 2001 Dodge ram 1500 two-wheel drive can I put the PCM from a 1998 Dodge ram 1500 4 wheel drive in the 2001 Dodge ram 1500

I doubt if it would work without reprogramming. The VIN needs to be encoded within the PCM. for the later year 2nd gen trucks. Also, there were changes to the 46RE transmission from 2000-on which wouldn't be in the 1998 PCM.
