So I cleaned the PCV valve with Slap Shot (brake cleaner on steroids) on the weekend, and my cruise control worked fine this morning. I still have a new PCV waiting for me at the parts store, but I'm hopeful that my vacuum leak is just a dirty/faulty PCV...

I don't think I've ever seen a PCV valve do that but I suppose it's possible. I'll have to remember that if I'm ever chasing a vacuum issue down.

On the 40-mile drive home from work, the vents turned to defrost at one point. So I suppose I still have a vacuum leak. But on the bright side, cruise control worked fine on the drive home as well

You still may have that happen without a leak. 20+ year old actuators leak a little and going up a hill supplies no vac to keep them where you put them. If you get off the throttle you will see they go back.
