Default Im on vacation and my 99 46re will only shift into 1st manually

Never had any transmission issues out of my 1999 5.2 2wd. I took a 500 mile trip to the beach and on the way down my o/d randomly turned off. I pulled over turned the truck off then back on and everything was normal again. It happened 2 more times in the ride down. But I shut the truck off and everything was normal again when I started back up. I went to go somewhere today and in D its trying to start in 2nd.but if I manually shift it'll shift through all the gears. When I put it in 1st it goes to first and I can shift up through all the gears.

Im 500 miles from home and worried my transmission is gonna **** the bed in the way home. What should I do?

If you can manually shift through the gears the mechanical bits of the transmission are working. Starting off in 2nd with an electronically controlled transmission (hence the "E" at the end) means it is in limp mode because something on the electronic side is on the fritz.

First step in troubleshooting is to retrieve codes.

You aren't getting any stored or pending codes when checking with an OBD2 code scanner? If the check engine light is on, there's likely something there...
