Default New-B here....Cat question

I just picked up a 97 ram 1500 sport....anyways...Im pretty sure the cat is shot...its rattling alot at idle....I never had to deal with a cat before...sooooo...fill me in a little...Im no newb to car stuff....Ive owned to mustangs and done all the work to them and do alot of automotive work but is the cat clogged or is it just bad, the reason its rattling? Reason I ask is because of getting better mpg...cause I know once a cat goes bad, it hurts alot...anways...I havnt crawled under the truck yet but it does have a magnaflow exhaust on it...I did a search and it seemed that one of the best deals was the magnaflow cat from summit...I think I read it comes with downpipes and all? So who can fill me in? Thanks

*EDIT* I think I also read someone said there was a recall on the 96+ Cats???? if so where and how do I find that out?

Your one of the trucks with the cat recall for sure. Go to the dealer and tell them its ratteling and you want a flow test. They should replace it for free.

Well I called the local dodge dealer and they looked up the last 8 digits of my vin and said the only recall the truck has is the 2ndary hood latch....they didnt say anything about the cat...so does this mean Im on my own then?

*EDIT* After reading throiugh some stuff...looks like it has to many miles for what dodge wants lol
