sounds about like it excpit think he got hosed lol they cost about 200-300 $ cdn and all you need to instal it is a chunk of heater hose 2 hose clamps and a sharp knife. can you get him to look and see how his is instaled maby there is more to it on the newer modles thow all the vehicles i have put them in before were 84 and older. lots of pepole in that area have them too im orignaly from manning and worlked in the oil patch too thats where i found out about them the coldest wen i was working one night was -56 deg celcus anyways thats off the topic if its possable could you get your buddy to look at his and see how its instaled
