Default Engine rebuild

I've have a 95 ram 1500 2wd 5.9l that needs a rebuild. I need to get it running so I can sell it. Money is tight so i'm going to do the job myself. any suggestions on rebuild kits Vs buyig parts individually. local junk yards want @ $1100 for motor w/core. Engine rebuilders want $1800-$2400

What exactially is wrong with it? You sure it needs a rebuild? I would go the junk yard route myself.

Sounds like a spun bearing with the clanking noise. My S10 Blazer was doing that when the rod on #4 snapped.

136k is really nothing for Magnums. Maybe you got a lemon [:'(]

It's been a good truck. this is the first major thing to go wrong in the 8yrs that i've owned it. I want to rebuild it myself instead of going through the hassle of swapping with a potentialy bad motor that i might get from the junk yard. I've got time. So any suggestions?
