Default Aftermarket alarm affecting tranny

I just bought a 94 dodge 2500 4x4 ctd and the tranny is kinda funky. It will not shift into OD at all and it shifts rough from 1st through 3rd. I have been told it could be the tps sensor thats is making it shift funny and that it wont shift into OD because the shift linkages might be worn or loose. But I read somewhere that the aftermarket alarm is what makes it not shift into overdrive.? Is there someway I can check this without having to disconnect the alarm system?? Any help would be appreciated.

I've never heard anything about an alarm affecting OD. But just because I didn't hear it doesn;t mean its not true!

It could also be a OD dolenoid problem.

TPS costs about $35 at your local parts store, 5 minutes to change it, I'd try it!

How are the shifts odd from 1-3?
Low on tranny fluid?
Have you tried to adjust the TV cable at all?
Is it excessively cold where you are? My V10 wont go into overdrive in extreme cold

i was going to say... the alarm cuasing those symptoms is kinda far fetched... youd (the installer) would have to have hacked into an enitrely seperate harness to affect shifting... prertty hard to do on accident

I forgot about that TSB. There was a TSB about the trucks not going into OD when its cold as ***** out. Its a saftey to stop the trans from hurting itself in extreme cold.

no i live in texas and it is about 6o degrees here. so what is the tv cable and what do i need to do to fix it. another thing, i went to a local tranny shop and the guy said that his scanner could not communicate with the computer on the truck. He said the comp may be bad or a wiring problem. there is also a jumper lead going to the comp that has been cut. Do yall think that it may have fried the comp? the shifting is wierd, from 1st i have to run it up to about 22 hundred rpms and then it will shift into 2nd, second to third is relatively smooth but the shift points still feel late. the tranny fluid has just been changed and there was no metal flakes in the old fluid. By the way i appreciate all the help and advice, engines and electrical i can handle but auto transmissions screw with my head

Wire cut going to the PCM? Thats not good.....get us a pic of it if you can. Or just tell us what color it is and which harness its in and I can look it up on the schematic.

Some scanners have a hell of a time connecting to these PCM's. I dunno why. I've used 3 on it. One was a Snap-On that was probably right around $1000. Never could get it to connect. Another was a brand new really high end Snap-On Scanner that was 7 grand retail. That one worked. And the cheapy one Auto Zone uses work. They're wierd.

it is a orange wire with a black stripe going to the seventh hole from the left on the bottom of the pin connector. the jumper is red and it looks like the previous owner ran it from the battery(+) to a toggle switch on the dash and then to the orange-black wire that connects to the pcm. also i have had the pcm apart and the silicon(i guess thats what it is) is cracked but not all the way.
