Default Towing Ability

I was wonder how well a '97 stock 1500 can haul something, like a horse trailer. A buddy blew out the rear end on his '95 pulling a trailer with a truck on it. So im wondering about the towing ability...

The rams will pull you horse trailer fine. I have a class 3 frame bolt-on hitch and have pulled very heavy loads. Now you have to remember two things. Do not exceed the limit of your hitch and look into a brake controller. I have a brake controller that applies an electric brake to the rear trailer wheels. That is a lifesaver. Going up hills might slow you down alittle but most steep hills have 3 lanes so you can move to the right when you slow down. As you can imagine the bigger the engine and better your rear end gears will make towing easier. Anyhow you should be fine but don't expect to be a speed demon out there.

i towed an 18 ft steel bed car hauler from oklahoma to florida and back twice, fully loaded truck, trailer, and fully loaded grand am on trailer... you should see pictures it was so low!! so i was sleeping in the pssgr seat and i wake up and my ol lady was doing 95 MPH whizzing by semis in the middle of the night!
i did kill my rear end though.. but only after about 20,000 miles of those trips and race car duty. and i swear by the brake controller!! the difference is worth three times what i paid.

I towed a friend's broken Bronco across town and had no problems. I was surprised how well it tows. 12-13 mpg must be good for something!

Yeah his '95 1500 has had nonstop problems, basically he bought a lemon. Towing the highboy home on a trailer, he blew up his differential, driving home on the freeway he front bearings blew and he ate a ditch, his tranny slips like crazy AND his power steering pump, water pumpand brakes have all gone out. He's only had this truck like 6 months. The day I bought mine he told me all the things that could go wrong because they have in his truck, I was like maybe you just bought a lemon. His 1500 also has 215k on it already, mine has 140k.

Well, some components will start to wear out after that many miles.
