Default Rattling cat....stupid question

I assume from my rattling cat that its bad, well, I fig its bad, but what is actually the cause of this? Is it the "insides" of the cat bad? I dont think my cat is clogged cause I dont really suffer to much from bad gas millage or a loss of power. Just rattles like a tin can. I plan on getting the magnaflow repalcement very soon, but just wanted to know what the harry causes all the rattling? I know its a stupid question haha, Im just used to off road pipes that were on my mustangs before

The honeycomb material inside is busted up. That's why it rattles.

i had the same problem. it rattled for weeks then, all of a sudden, i couldn't rev over 2500 rpms. it needs to be replaced ASAP. i just received the magnaflow $150 replacement from summit, looks like a quality part...i'll put it on tomorrow, and let you know how it is.

Problem with letting it go as far as fully collapsing is it can clog up your muffler if its chambered as well or just move the rattle farther back. I went to a Magnaflow glasspack so when my first h/f cat blew it would come out the sidepipe and not ruin anotther catback like the stocker did. Enjoyed the gutted hi/flow for 2yrs till I had to replace it to pass etest.

I made the mistake of getting an regular aftermarket cat for mine just like the dealers. It was like $300. God I regret not getting a Magnaflow which is better and cheaper
