Need some info from the experts here
I need some information regarding the PCM mounted on the firewall. I know there are several experts here that might know the answer right off the top of their head
I have had some work done on the electrical system, not by choice due to a short. And something has bothered me for sometime about something I noticed.
The wires that go into the connectors on the PCM have electrical tape at the end on my truck. Is it supposed to be like that? I cannot remember how they came from the factory.,
In other words, theres the pcm, the three connectors and the wires that feed into the connectors on mine have black electrical tape at the base of the plastic connector that they terminate in.
I just think that its odd to have electrical tape on the wires at the point of the connection.
thanks for any info

Thanks for the information. I am trying to figure out what is what as I am going through a very expensive short problem costing around $900 using dealer parts.
They probably did something to it when they were searching for the short. Probably pulled some of the shield off to test the wires and just taped them up. I doubt its taped because they cut the wires or anything
i bet they were just shooting out some wires looking for a short to ground or an opens through the circuits... basic troubleshooting stuff... i wouldnt worry too much about it... mine the wires at the very end before the pin into the connecters are open... came from the factory like that

Thank you all for the information.
I am heading back to the dealership tomorrow to go over the short issue with them and Allstate. 3.5 years ago I had a wreck with the truck involving a/c and some electrical work. When I picked the truck up from the second pathetic body shop, I got a check engine light when I engage the a/c. It showed up again last november. I took it to the dealership and they said that the pcm was shorting out the clock spring and brake light switch, both were replaced at a cost of $340 to me, now they say the pcm is the culpret as it is shorting out the other two switches. I find it hard to believe that it's not related to the accident back in 02, I have only put 6k on the truck since all of the body and electrical work. The truck has been semi retired since 03. So at 48k the accident and work was done, and at 56k I am having more electrical problems.
I don't think any of you have experienced the two switches in the steering column, clock spring and brake shorting the pcm or visa versa.
Sad thing is I hardly ever use the a/c only to defog or defrost for the most part. I doubt there's 30 total hours on the system since I bought the truck new in Oct 97
I don't have $900 bucks laying around to pay for such nonsense.
Anyhow, thanks to everyone who replied.
