can anyone please help me i have a 96 ram with a v10 i was wondering if anyone knows how many oxygen sensors it is supposed to have. i have four connections, right now i only have 2 sensors both upstream one on each side. i have no cats, so if i am supposed to have 2 downstream do i need them. the dealer says it only lists 2 up and one down so why do i have an extra connection. i am lost any help would be great p.s i do have code 21 come up

 

you should only have 2 on a 96 1 on each side upstreem (before) the cat are you dhure the ouhter plugs are for O2 sencers and are you shure its an 96? what month duz the sticker say it was made in? sometimes it was made in say 12/96 (as in dec) but it was made like a 97 and i think in 97 is wen they went to 2 o2s per side. code 21 means (from http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/Trouble/pcm_fault_code.htm ) O2 sensor does not detect rich or lean condition, or O2 sensor input voltage too high. DRB will indicate which side with dual sensors. The O2 sensor signal should fluctuate under normal conditions. you could try an o2 sim in the downstrem plugs

 

yes, the tag on the piller says 8/95 and the title say 96. i can take an old o2 sensor and plug it right in to the extra plug just like the downstream. so in reality i can plug 4 o2 sensors in thankyou very much for the reply

 

if you just plug in the outher 2 without a cat and without a o2 sim it may not solve your prob cuz they wont detect a diftrence thow
