The subject line says it all. Wondering if I should be replacing this when I tear the engine apart for the plenum gasket ? Prior to tear down I have no idea if there is any wear ofcourse, but if there is an issue with these chains I will just replace it.

agreed...replace it when you can... im starting to regret not doing mine when i got the top end apart... (this weekend) but i have no time to order a new chain (thats worth anything) and have time to wait for it to come in and still have time to put it in and back together before i gotta go to school....

ill end up changing it out in the summer i guess hopefully with my new heads b/c ill have the top apart again...

dont be a moron like me!

Ok, so replace it I will. I mean I will be following Steve00Ram's directions to do it so it will all be exposed anyway right?

There is no way for you to order it overnight thru summit racing? I'd do it if you can... but then again to tear it appart again to do the chain wouldnt take that long... probably quicker than the intake. Once you remove the a/c alt bracket, 5 or 6 bolts for the pump, and another 5/6 for the cover...

Remember to change the front seal!

On Spring Break I'm digging into mine engine...so I guess I'll check the chain. But what am I looking for? I've never played with a timing chain. I REALLY don;t have to $ to fix it unless its actually screwed up. So when I do it I'll probably have to overnight it or 2-3 day shipping.

But how do I tell if its screwed up? And if it is screwed up what is it gonna do?

if it's got any more than 40~50k miles on it, it's most likely stretched. here's a pic of mine before I took it off and the new one that I put on. bad ones will change your cam timing affecting your performance.

actually when it comes down to it, it shouldnt take that long to swap the chain... 3~4 hours max I think, about 1 hour to get to the pump level, then 1 hour to swap the chain & change the seal and about 1~1.5 hours to put it back together...
