does the 5.9 have the same timing chain issue as the 5.2
The subject line says it all. Wondering if I should be replacing this when I tear the engine apart for the plenum gasket ? Prior to tear down I have no idea if there is any wear ofcourse, but if there is an issue with these chains I will just replace it.
agreed...replace it when you can... im starting to regret not doing mine when i got the top end apart... (this weekend) but i have no time to order a new chain (thats worth anything) and have time to wait for it to come in and still have time to put it in and back together before i gotta go to school....
ill end up changing it out in the summer i guess hopefully with my new heads b/c ill have the top apart again...
dont be a moron like me!

Remember to change the front seal!
On Spring Break I'm digging into mine engine...so I guess I'll check the chain. But what am I looking for? I've never played with a timing chain. I REALLY don;t have to $ to fix it unless its actually screwed up. So when I do it I'll probably have to overnight it or 2-3 day shipping.
But how do I tell if its screwed up? And if it is screwed up what is it gonna do?

if it's got any more than 40~50k miles on it, it's most likely stretched. here's a pic of mine before I took it off and the new one that I put on. bad ones will change your cam timing affecting your performance.
actually when it comes down to it, it shouldnt take that long to swap the chain... 3~4 hours max I think, about 1 hour to get to the pump level, then 1 hour to swap the chain & change the seal and about 1~1.5 hours to put it back together...
