Axle wrench size for 96 dodge 4X4
I am replacing the u joint on the front axle on the passenger side on a 96 dodge ram. I have been to 7 part houses and no one has the axle wrench to take the nut off the hub and I am not sure of the size. The part houses do not know what size it is and all the dealerships are closed today. It looks like 1 3/4", but am not sure. Will a 6 point socket work if I can not find a axle wrench. All the Dodge dealership parts departments are closed today or I would call them. This is a very common truck and I can not believe I have not found a wrench! Please help! Do you know the size and where I can order one?

1 11/16
I went to the local Man's Mall (Fleet Farm) and bought one (it was $8 or $9) when I changed my axle seals. They're handy to have. It's a common axle nut size for a lot of vehicles. I've used it twice since (on an 01 Grand Prix and a 1990 Grand Prix).

Thanks for the info. I will get one tomorrow. It has 174000 miles on it and still going strong except for this u joint. I may give you a shout back if I run into problems - if that is ok. This is the first time I have done this and am feeling my way thru it. Thanks again.
