Default stop light switch problems

The brake lights on my 2000 Ram 1500 do not work. Fuse is fine, bulbs are fine. This leads me to believe its the brake/stop light switch. Before I go out and get a new switch, I was wondering if this was a problem that occurs often on Rams. Thanks.

Also, I can shift into gear without depressing the brake pedal. That was another one of the reasons that makes me think its the switch.

our rams dont require you to depress the brake pedal prior to shifting into gear.. i thought the same thing tooo but its just how they were designed...

Default RE: stop light switch problems

Hello,

I had the same problem with my 99 Ram 1500 a few months ago. The stop light switch went bad. The problem that I had was all the local auto parts stores had the wrong part listed for my truck. When I told them what I needed, they all came back to the counter with a switch that did not match the one that I took out of my truck. Make sure you get the little instruction sheet that comes with the switch also, because if you dont follow the instructions exactly the switch becomes damaged and will not work.

Good luck, David

i replaced the stop switch, and the top row lights, plus the light on my cab light up. The bottom rows of lights do not light up at all, even with a good fuse. Would I be alright if I spliced a wire from the top row brake wire to the bottom row?

what do you mean bottem row lights, do you mean the ones in your tail lights if so you cant splice in from your CHMBL because the tail light break light wire is also the signel light wire. do your rear signel lights work? if so then its not the wire did you check the bulbs
