5.9 Magnum VS 6.0 Vortech?...
Alright guys...I have been pondering how these engines measure up to each other. Ol'blackie had the 5.9 in her and she was pretty quick. I drove a chevy 6.0 ext cab 2wd (not SS) once and it didn't seem to have much power. I was wondering what the difference between these two engines where. Anyone have some info? -Tyler

RE: 5.9 Magnum VS 6.0 Vortech?...
the 6.0 liter has similar #'s as the 5.7L Hemi motor... about 345 HP 360+ TQ... Our 360's come out of the box with around 255hp & 340+ FTLBS/TQ. The truck's have similar weight so it would stand to reason that the Dodge would be out matched. Now one difference is that the chevy's come stock with 3.45 gears while the Dodge has a set of Dana 3.55's in it. That may very well make the dodge feel better from 0 to about 10 but after that doesn't make a whole lot of difference.
Now that being said it really isn't fair to compare the two. The Dodge motor is an older more outdated design. It originated in the late 40's (I Think). Also for whatever reason Dodge did a number on the 5.9L in terms of air movement. It has a restrictive intake and exhaust set up (from the manifold all the way out to the back tail pipe) the throttle body and injectors are also too small. Reworking the intake, heads, replacing the throttle body, getting an intake induction system, and getting all of the exhaust replaced (Headers, Hi-flow cat and better mufflers) When you fix all of that the 360 is actually not a bad peformer at all and I would put it against that 6.0L any day of the week.

RE: 5.9 Magnum VS 6.0 Vortech?...
My dad's work van has the 6.0 and he carries nearly 5,000 extra pounds of tools and he still leaves ricers on the line, his personal vehicle is a ck3500 pickup with a 5.7 and they don't measure up at all, the 5.7 chevy doesn't even measure up to my 5.2 dodge, the 6.0 was a good move for gm, i wouldn't try to beat it with a 5.9, but a 5.7 hemi is a different story!

RE: 5.9 Magnum VS 6.0 Vortech?...
I think he is talking about the 6.0 used in the 2500's with 300hp and 365 torque. I'd actually say the Ford 5.4 is better. I know someone who had a 6.0 in a 4-door 4x4, and he modded it lots, and still only ran mid-16's (which a stock Hemi 4-door 4x4 does better). I wouldn't be surprised if it won, because it is newer, but it might be close too.
Bah, just realized that he was talking about the one with the SS engine, not in the SS. That thing will eat a 5.9 alive.
