muddy-I washed the rims with water, sprayed with break cleaner then scuffed it up using as scrub pad (like the ones you do your dishes with) then i bought a metal etching primer ( so will stick to alum) you would be fine just reg primer then paint( i did that on my ranger and never chipped or flaked in fact i used reg spray paint on my steel rims) let sit 3 coats then put them on my truck. Dupli recomends the clear coat for the wheels after the color is on but auto zone didnt have it. but i have beat the crap out of it and the paint has held up great. I did get one scratch when i put on a lug but that was an eazy fix. JUST SPARY AWAY

well i've been redoing an old bike and the painting it is becoming a PITA... but if you want it to look REALLY good for a LONGer time.. definetly go get some clear coat. that way you can even wax it when you do the rest of the truck.. if you do wax it that is.. and the paint really shines when the sun hits it with the clear coat.

there is also this rock chip paint for front spoilers (basically REALLY thick paint) that might help prevent scratches if you're worried about them from normal driving, or gravel, or mud, or trees, or if you just don't want to paint them again for awhile.

Man,I HATE to be the one to burst yer bubble.....
but its not gonna stick....

Metal etching primer does NOT bite into clear powdercoat, and those wheels are Silver powdercoat with a layer of clear epoxy powdercoat on top....
They may stick for a while, but it won't stay and adhere properly...
You were right to scuff... scuff till there is NO shine or reflection, then its done enough.... then wipe down with a low voc (slow evaporating) cleaner..... brake clean leaves residue that will bubble paint eventally if it isnt a catalized paint... (spray bomb isnt) you just neeeded a good self etching primer from SEM or something, Metal etch however, is gonna bite ya in the ****

Dude, that looks really nice. I like the red on black look as well. If the truck wasnt lifted I would suggest painting the raised white letters a nice nascar yellow.
But Im a huge nascar nut
