3.55 opinion
ok so i am assuming i have 3.55 gears im my truck...
i am mostly off road in the summer, not to hard core, but getting into some remote lakes for fishing is what i do most.... (crossing small creeks, some steep inclines, ect)
when im not on the dirt im mostly on the freeway to get home from being at work is quite a drive the city is about is about 2200 ft and where i live is about 4600 ft so its a very hilly drive...
Now the speed limit on this road is 110 kms but i have a hard time keeping at that speed limit im isually around 90kms or so
i guess im half and half offroad/on road
would i benefit from changing my gears? would i see an improvment? i have 285/75/16 for tires and i have a 5.2 maual
any info would be great... thanks

On my 99 Ram when you raise the hood up there is a sticker on the bottom of the hood right by the front that has all of my info such as the gearing. 410's in mine but I didnt buy it for the gas mileage, lol.

ive got 3.55 on my 5.2 and the only thing i would say is bad about them is that the towing power isnt great. besides that as long as its not hardcore off road i dont see why you wouldnt be ok. if ur on the highway alot they are the best gears for that.
Since you have a manual tranny I'd say you are just fine with the 3.55, unless you plan on towing a lot. Mine has a metal tag on the rearend cover that has the gear ratio stamped on it.
I also have 3.55's with a 5.9. As long as the RPM's are above 1800 with no load I was OK, With a load needed RPM's around 2000 to move out of my way. As long as the speed limit wasn't strict 55-60 would cruise. One long 4 lane area that is strict with 55-60 and small rises, it would either dog on the inclines or kick out of OD with cruise on. 70 MPH and up, all was good.
Of course all this was until the 35"s. New 4.56 gears and posi rear have been delivered.
Hope to get them in this week. Should only put my RPM's about 250 over original set up.
