Programmer on a used truck
I have a used 99 Ram and have been considering a power programmer for a while now. I have no reason to think that one has been used on the truck before, but if it hypothetically had does anyone know if I would still be able to use one I might buy?
hmm well when you first plug it in it downloads your stock settings into the programmer so when you want to put it back to stock it knows what stock is. I dont know if it would work but just a suggestion unplug your negative terminal from your battery for 15 mins and that SHOULD reset your computer. You should drive it around for a few hundred miles again so your computer can relearn the best way to drive stock and then buy and play with the programmer.
Now I dont know if by doing the unhook it will reset your computer back to stock\stock or old program\stock so you might want to wait for someone else to say somthing here too.

reseting the pcm like you mentioned doesnt delete the hypertech programing... the only way to really tell if the truck was ever programed and not returned to stock before you bought it (which i think is what your asking) is to plug in a programer and if the programer displays "hypertech has programmed" wich will tell you that the PCM has a performance flash to it not the stock
