Default Tranny problem !

I have a 97 Dodge Ram 1500 with an automatic transmission. I am having an intermitent shifting problem. When it acts up , the check engine light comes on and the transmission doesn't start out in low gear. It seams like i'm starting out in second or drive. Then for no apparent reason it will start shifting normally and after a day or so the check engine light will go off. This is happening over and over. Any advice on what is causing this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Default RE: Tranny problem !

welcome to DF..

there are 2 sensors in the tranny that cause shifting problems, I dont know how hard it is to swap them out, I had a shop do mine and service it at the same time. total cost was about $300 bux. it fixed my problem, and it's a known problem so you might have them take a look at it.
