96 ram trans leaking
I went offroading about a month ago and my trans mount busted and I didnt know about it. I found out yesterday because my exhaust broke in half from my transmission yanking on it and now I have open exhuast so I replaced my mount but I also found out that Im leaking trans fluid everywhere now. Its slow enough for me to keep it filled but I was just wondering if you guys think a seal could break just from the trans moving around, or do you tihnk it could be some kind of a break in the line, also whast the best way to locate where its leaking! hard to tell since there is trans fluid caked everywhere under my truck now. By the way the trans has recently been rebuild, id like to fix this problem myself before taking it in to avoid expenses I dont exactly have a trusty mechanic and seem to get skrewed from time to time
spray the tranny down with simple green, take it to a self service car wash and clean it up. use the light spray setting on the hand wand so you dont force water into the wrong spots. then drive it a little to trace down the leak.
couple of spots to look at are 1 the pan, then 2 the tranny lines going to the cooler. check the underside of the bell housing (part the connects to the motor).
that should help narrow it down. oh, and also the rear seal off the transfer case could be a problem as well
btw, welcome to df...

I got a 95 V10 4X4 and my tranny was/is leaking horribly. It turns out the extension housing (part between the tranny and transfer case) was cracked. The crack was hidden so well that I missed it at first. I got it replaced, though it just cracked again and I'm pissed, I don't even go off-roading.
