lockout on front end
I have a 1995 1500 4x4 dodge Ram.
I am unsure of how the front end locks in for the 4 wheel drive. Is it possible to swap out the front hubs for lockouts?
Can i get parts from a different vehicle for the swap?
I heard somewhere that the front end is a Dana 44. Can i get other dana 44 parts to make it a lock out?
has anyone does this?

The front end is a Dana 44, but I don't know of any lockout kits for it. I'm also not sure if parts from older ones would work with it. I'd have to check, but I think the older Rams used passenger side drop axles...and they've been using CAD for quite some time.
I know there is a kit to convert the Dana 60, but it is quite expensive.
Is there a reason you are looking to convert it???

To me a manual lockout is more reliable then an automatic system.
also on the current system one axle in the front end is turning all the time. IT seems more efficient if the hubs would be free to turn.

I can't beleive that no one has ever addressed this.
would a front rear from a 79 bronco work? or an older chevy? i know that is a dana 44. could i just the spindles and axles and such and bolt it to the dodge housing for locks outs?
what is the axle length to the u-joint on the dodge?
i guess you could almost put two havles together and make a special axle.
i guess the real question is in the spindles.
