Default CLUTCH QUESTION

Hey, this is my first post, I really like this forum so far great to be a part of it!

I have a question about my clutch.

First off, my truck is a 2001 Ram 2500 With the 8 liter V10 and a 5 speed.

The clutch has been acting up the past day or so, it seems to move the engagement point of the clutch around. Sometimes the clutch will start to grab about an inch from the floor, and sometimes it will grab 6 inches from the floor. I do not know what is going on, i was told that I could bleed the system, but do not know how.

This tends to happen only though 1st and 2nd, then it goes back to normal, which is about 5 inches for the clutch to start to grab. It seems like pumping the clutch does help a little.

I dont think that this is a tranny problem, cause there is no noise, no unusual vibration. I have gone wide open throttle and I know that the clutch is not slipping. I do believe that this problem is the clutch. Please help!

Is there any easy fix for this problem? Thanks in advance.

If the fluid isn't low, then I don't know what to tell you. I know that people on here tried to tell me that I could bleed the clutch on my 95 1500 318 5 speed, but you can't bleed them. There are no bleeder screws or anything. I had to go to the dealer and get all new slave cylinder, lines, fluid resivior, and a clutch master cylinder. It is a pretty penny let me be the first to tell you. Hope you figure it out and hope it isn't that you have to buy everything new.

The fluid level is not low. its right where it was when i bought the truck in september. I, too, do not hope that I would have to buy everything new. I talked to a mechanic at the dodge dealership here in butte and he told me that he himself has bled this type of clutch system in his dodge. He said that you have to remove the slave cylinder and hold it up above the master, or something........ ????

Thanks for the help. appreciate it.

I don't really see how he ended up doing that because the lines that I bought from the dealership are hard lines, and I would think that the hard lines would kink up. I was told on here to just press the arm in on the slave cylinder and press the clutch, it didn't work. If the pedal is getting pressure here and there from the floor, it might be that the slave cylinder is bad because it is searching for pressure to press the throw-out bearing. I hope that it is nothing serious.
