Default Beef Up what you have or Crate Motor???

I love my truck, but this 5.9 IMO is fairly tame compared to other trucks that are out there these days. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it at all, but I want to eventually get more power out of my motor....preferably like 325-400 hp. I am considering either beefing up my 5.9 or getting a crate motor. Its kind of up in the air right now, nothing will happen for a year or two but i want some early opinions, so which one would you do and why ??? If beef up, what mod's (i know its been hammered into the ground) If crate, what motor and setup and why.... thanks guys!!! By the way if i got the crate i could some day maybe use my 5.9 in one of the older vehicles i have access too.

what kind of crate engines do they have out. i know in like the summit and jegs they have magnum crate motors but i heard somewhere that the are not an offical magnum. there like the LA motor but there just called that. idk how true that is though. beefing up the motor is also another good way to go. stroke it to get alot of power, supercharger, cams, roller rockers, rt heads....

Well I faced this simular decision with my truck before I sold it. I had 90,000 on my 01 5.9 and if I were to have kept it then I would have gotten a motor built by Dan Arcade the Fastman. I talked to him over the phone about it. If your truck has high miles then I would not suggest doing some heavy mods to the engine. I would get a crate motor and have a fresh start. Give Dan a call and tell him what your looking to get. He's a really great guy and he knows mopar engines very well. He's makes a 360 thats bored and stroked to a 408 thats pretty bad a$$ I hear.

Depends on how long you have to wait. Do you need it to get to work every day? If not pull the one you have, find a reputable machine shop in your area, and build the hell out of it. The blocks are sound. I have one 318 that has ~300k on it and runs like a top when you can get the other systems to cooperate. It's the top ends and pcm bull**** that need fixing. If you fix what DC (emphasis on D) should have..right, then have the pcm tuned back to where it should have been tuned. you will save money and be happier.

I also agree that Dan could build you one bad *** motor.
