Default replacing coolant temp sensor?

I searched and found nothing, so here it is. sensor got stuck at 180, usually runs 210. removed the sensor wire while truck was off, temp dropped to 140. put wire back on, now gauge is stuck at 140. so im thinking sending unit is bad. do i have to replace the t-stat to do this? autozone says the unit is $15. does this sound like a good idea?

mine went bad... make sure its for a 5.9L GAS not 5.9L desiel,,, mine did the same thing as yours..stuck at the bottom, i got a new one from autozone they gave me the deseil one and then my temp shot WAY up and my check gauges like came on lol... go to a napa and get it... autobone are a bunch of dum dums

you dont have to take the tstat out to replace it... if you know wher eit is (assuming u do since you wiggled the wire) just unplug that connecter..i think its a 1/2 inch deepwell... or 5/8 cant remember. un screw it... some coolant will come out ( especially if the motor is still hot/warm be carefull, **** burns) then just put the new on is and tighten down.. no gasket needed,,, plug the connecter back on.. giver her a try...

before you go through and do all this..make sure your stat isnt bad... crank the heat up and make sure the truck is actually allowed to warm up..if your blowing cool air and the engine isnt allows to get warm then your stat is bad and your temp gauge is working right .. also make sure you feel/hear warm liquid flowing through the upper hose (upper rad hose) just2 make sure your pump is still circulating wata

any other ?'s lemme know!

do i have to move the alternator to replace it? if so, i might as well do the t-stat and coolant and sensor at the same time then. in town here, autozone is the best choice ( i know, its not saying much) but they have it in stock. thanks for any responses.
