If im not mistaken you can get a wireing harness for stuff like that'

If you dont wanna mess with the wires and all of that other jazz, then check out autozone or any cabela's magazine, they have dash mounts for the Outside/Inside Temp. and compass that look fairly simple to install. Cabelas has an overhead kit too if you are really bent on haveing a roof mounted one.

Default Overhead console question!!???

Don't worry guys, I did my research and checked out the other posts on this forum. I have a 97 Ram, as mentioned before it came bone stock, no frills. After researching the forum, I have come to find that if I want this option in my 97, not only do I need to find a donor console, but the wiring harness as well. My question is this; and is mainly for you tech certified guys or someone else who has done this; if I am able to wrangle these parts from a local junk yard or ebay, will I find the plug-in for the other end of said harness on my truck, and where would that be? Also I think I might someday garnish the testicular fortitude to actaully get another gauge cluster with a tach and try that as well, now that I knwo it will work, just have to live with whatever mileage it comes with.

Just stick your head out the window and if you sweat, it's hot. If your hair freezes it's cold.........[]

If the gas light is on you need to fill the tank.........Trip reset button is on the dash.

Compass would be nice. We never ask for directions or let the wife read the map...Suns in my face and it's 5PM, must be heading west.

Way too much work for the benefit...

Hmmm, think I am gonna start calling the junk yards tomorrow to see if there are even any available in my area right now. Might have to broaden my search..... will keep everybody updated. As long as the harness connection to the PCM is plug-in connectors (if someone could verify that would help) I will be fine. Even if there are wires to chase and splice, I still feel pretty confident I could do it if provided with schematics. I am an electro-mechanical maintenance instructor. That kind of stuff is my bread and butter. I would really love to figure out wiring in a 3rd gen setup, but I don't think the pcm would support that.
