Default Idle flucuation problem

'01 5.9L magnum.. 120xxx KM (not miles!) and i notice it mostly when it's cold (on start up) that the idle flucuates above 500 rpm so aorund 1500-1800rpm when i start it up and usually when its cold. Now.. I am not familiar with Domestics what so ever, this is my father's car, but I told him it is most likely his IACV. (im not even positive if dodge's use iacv's) anyways.. I told him I could try to clean it up for him and see if it goes away but if not he will need to purchase a new one.

Is there anyway on these vehicles that I could check the IACV? or any other malfunctioning parts that might be causing this idle flucuation?

Thanks for your time!

easiest way to check the IAC is to take it off and turn on your key with it out of its hole and just see if it moves out and then back in.... it should do that as soon as your key is turned into the on position ( but dont start it). if it doesnt move its too dirty or doesnt work. try cleaning it with TB cleaner or just pick up a new one.

10 to 1 it is a dirty Idle Air Control motor. The best way to do it is to remove the entire Throttle body and remove the sensors. The IAC is the one on the back of the TB. It will have a plunger that will probably be dirty. Use spray carb cleaner on a rag and gently clean the plunger. Then use the spray carb cleaner liberally in the hole the IAC came from and clean the rest of the TB with it also. I'd about guarantee this will fix your problem.

figured it was the iacv.

Any special tips or advice before I take it off? Little things I should know?

I can't see why there would be for a tb and iacv, but you never know.

Click on this link for some instructions: http://www.thefastman.com/ThrottleBo...structions.asp The instructions are to remove a stock tb and replace with a Fastman tb. (Good Idea by the way) Just use what is pertinent to your situation......
