<FONT face="Courier New, Courier, mono">I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 4X4. Engine light came on. I disconnected battery light went out for a couple hundred miles. Light came back on and displayed a P1740 code.I replaced the solenoid pack in tranny. Code went away. Light came back on and same code again. Disconnected battery, light went out. Couple hundred miles later light comes on again speed sensor code. Replaced speed sensor reset computer. Couple hundred miles later 1740 code came back. Tranny has no signs of any problems and truck runs fine. Reset computer and light comes back every couple hundred miles. Please help with any advise.</FONT>
P1740 comes up as Torque Convertor Clutch or Overdrive Solenoid.
There SHOULD be a computer flash from Chrysler (have to go to dealer for) to fix this. I can confirm later... Chrysler link is down at my source.
LOL! Hope that helps!!

Well... the dealership will hook up a computer to your truck's computer and then the dealer's computer will 'flash' a new code into your truck's computer. 'Flashing' just means it's more or less an update for your trucks computer. It is the way they put new codes, or fix old ones in your trucks computer.
But like I said, I'm not 100% positive that there is a flash regarding it... but I talked to a mechanic to make sure and he was pretty sure. I'll know when the Chrylser Link is back up there. LOL! Sorry about that. It's a satellite thingy... and with bad weather... yadda yadda... you know...?

I hope all that made sense.

That would be great if that will end this problem. I am just about to give up on this problem and find an older truck without all the computer crap. Something you can fix with a hammer and a pair of pliers hahaha. Thanks Amanda and I hope to hear from you soon on the availability of a computer flash. Thanks!<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">
No problem!! It was the top mechanic at the dealership I talked to... so... I'd say it's probably 90% a sure thing there is a computer flash update for that. Try calling your local dealership... maybe they can tell you over the phone...? Nevertheless, I'mexpecting call son about it and I'll LYK (let you know) right away.

Mines showing this code now too. How much would it cost to get a dealer to check into it and find out what the problem is? And how much to fix it? and how much for the parts and how hard is it if i decide to do it myself? My truck is my DD so i need it. Would it hurt to drive it with that code? Does it have to be a dealer to find out what it is or can any shop tell me?
