+4 advance?
I have seen a few posts were guys advance their basic crank to cam timing by 4 degrees by using a different crank gear. the ger has several keyways cut in it for this purpose. does advancing the crank and cam timing give you anything? how about fuel mileage? anyone have any comments?
Advancing the valve timing will give you more low end power at the expense of top end power. I would find out where your valve timing is now before advancing it. For a DD I would put a good chain on there and leave it at 0*.
Depends what you're talking about. I agree it would help city mileage, but it may hurt highway mileage. I thought about advancing my valve timing and was advised against it by two local speed shops, Dan Arcand (fastman.com), and the guys at Hughes.

Why did Dan and Hughes advise against it? (I am thinking about doing it to my truck)

Don't know. Could be because without degreeing a cam to find out what kind of advance it has alreadyground into it you are just doing something and hoping for the best. Could be factory cams are not ground reliably enough to know where you are without degreeing it. Hughes is big on degreeing cams. I forget who they use. Comp cams are supposedly dead on. I would think that if you're expecting some kind of miracle launch from stop lights by advancing your valve timing you will be dissapointed. Gears and stall will do wonders.

I saw "low end torque" and [sm=happy046.gif] got excited. I have not heard of advancing the valves to shift the torque, but it makes sense. I'm not ready to rip off the front of my engine....yet, but any other ideas to get more low end torque?
