HYPERTECH rev limiter
i've heard that our engines stop making power after around 4800 or so.. so setting it higher isnt really helping.. just burning more gas.. i think automatics shift before it hits the rev limiter anyway so i dont think you have to worry about it.. but i have a manual so i tend to hit it alot
I wouldn't worry about 100 rpms. Any more than that you are taking a chance of blowing up the motor for no gain. The motor quits making power at 4 something rpms.....
It depends on how your truck is set up. That dyno chart reflects a bone stock Ram with the exception of the CAI. Things like intake mods, bigger valves, free flowing exhaust, etc. will make a 360 pull well into the 5k's. My rev limiter is set at 6k and wot shift points are set at 5.4k. I have no valve float there and it winds up good up to 5.1-5.2k. I have a M1 ordered, I think that will take the motor up a little further to where it slams 5.4k with no problem at all. I have heard the stock limiter is set at 5.2K. I had a superchips installed before the custom flash that raised the limiter 400rpm over stock, so 250 ought to be fine. Especially if you have an auto tranny and stock pcm, cause you'll never see that anyway.
Good points on how your truck is set up. I posted the info above after looking at his sig. He has not done as much as you. I would be very intereted in seeing your dyno run. I wish it was cheaper to do and easier. Id love to see if the roller rockers and new push rods do anything that I want to install.
Just for kicks, I am thinking about having it dyno'd after the M1 install. With his exhaust and the Hypertech, I bet his power band has moved up. I am not sure about the Hyp. tune because I've never used one, but alot of what is reflected in that dyno chart is a result of detuning- i.e. power coming on slow at the bottom end because of the pcm pulling timing out and dropping off at the top end when the motor starts de-fueling.
