Insurance
I am going to college in september and cannot bring my truck to college the first year. I will only be coming home every other weekend or so, if that, and holidays. I do not want to pay insurance when i will not be driving it that much but also do not want unregister it, for i will be coming home a few/couple times a month. Is there anyway i can get a cheaper policy during the first year like with what they do with antique vehicles, you can drive them on the weekends, i know they have a policy like that, but do not know if they have any policies like that for new cars/trucks.
Thanks
Thanks
Do you owe anything on your truck? Like a loan through a bank? If you do, they usually require that you have full coverage on your vehicle in case something happens to it.
You can drop the coverage down to liability only, but then you'll have to be careful when driving it. If something happens, you won't get anything for your truck.
Depending on your insurance company, you should be able to get a low mileage/show car policy that would cost somewhat less than a regular policy. They usually limit you to 7000 miles a year with that. They don't tend to check your mileage though. I have a show car policy on my 1999 Grand Prix...I've had it on there for a few years now, and they've never checked my mileage. Good thing too...because I actually went over last year...by 800 miles. [8D] They year before though I didn't even put 3000 on it. [>:]
Another thing you can do to save some $$$ is raise your deductables. But again, you have to be careful if you do that. Something happens...you'll be paying more to fix it.
Insurance is always a gamble...you always have too much when you're paying for it....and never enough when you need it [:'(]

I have a loan on my truck and also have a car. My truck is insured as a recreational/fun vehicle with less than 5000 miles a year and my car is just liability as my main vehicle. This cut my insurance by 1/3 from what i was paying for just the truck
