Silver is correct there. My truck doesn't have a mass air flow sensor unfortunitially. If I can get 2mpg extra that will add up quite a bit I think. Paying 60$ to fill up and only going 300 miles now versus paying 60$ and going 350 miles. Right there that will save me $10. Like I said for the next 3.5-4 years my truck will be mostly highway, where the tonneau will help more. I realize how it won't help AS much in city driving.

My friend with a 2001 S-10 got s solid 3 MPG after he had one of those hard fiberglass ARE covers installed. And another friend with an 2003 4.6L F-150 got a solid 2 after installing his Extang Tilt Cover.

That F-150 gets like 25 highway with the tonneau, FIPK, and Flowmaster exhaust. It has the factory cat too. Not to bad for a full size V8 truck. Don't worry, I'll never go to Ford though unless they get 5000 MPG

Either get Tonneau now and FIPK in a month or so, or vice versa, so I will be getting both. Maybe even a fastman before summers over.
As someone who's had both a air induction kit and a fiberglass tonneau on his Dakota, I honestly say that if you are going to be getting them both with in the next 6 weeks....just wait. Get them both at the same time. Honestly, you are basing your choice off of other people's results and there is no guarantee that you will see an increase with a cover on your truck. The difference in tires, ride height, city driving, etc etc can be big factors.

Honestly, if you are going to get both within the next 6 weeks...just wait it out and do it right.

I'd like to get them both right now, and I have the money I just would get the bank account lower then I like. And I can justify buying one thing for $200, and another thing for $220 at a different time, but together thats $420 and I feel guilty lol

seeing that you're getting them both by the end of summer not going to matter that much by buying either one now and the other later. i wish i had a tonneau just cause it rains so damn much here and i do shows that are two hours away with my band and it would be nice to be able to car pool in my truck rather than having to throw my drums in the cab with me.

IMO get the tonneau cause you will use it more to haul stuff from school back and forth and all that. especially if you live in the dorms or something like that. make it much easier to carry laundry home to mom.

If your in the market for a Toneau then check out the Extang Full Tilt Cover. Installed in about an hour and works like a charm. I got the one without the snaps. It works like a charm and looks great too!

My friend has the Full Tilt one, very nice. A bit more $$ then I want though. I want to be able to roll it up whenever I want too though.

I have the Tuff Tonneau on my '00 and I love it!!

I did notice a MPG increase (even with my blown plenum gasket) It was the first mod I did to my truck after I got it. For the $200 I'd buy it again. I recommend Autoeverything.com for the tuff tonneau. I have had mine for about a year and a half and the vinyl has survived Las Vegas sumers with no covered parking. Aside from the MPG I enjoy the ability to carry loads covered (Carried $10k worth of server equipment 30 miles in heavy rain without a drop of water on the boxes!). The other great thing is the J-hook fastener system. I have owned Snap style, and velcro style Tonneaus in the past and never realized there was an easier way. Now I can have an open bed in less than 2 minutes, and close it up in about the same amount of time. No more need to pull out the pliers and the blowtorch to close the damn thing either. My only gripe is keeping the Vinyl clean... it is impossible in the desert.

Oh yeah... and the claims that it will stay intact at 110+ MPH are true It also has a positive effect on high speed handling. As I found on my last road trip.

What you guys are missing and why the hard tonneau isnt giving you the mileage you think it would is the weight factor, the hard over weighs alot compared to the soft cover. I have the Extang soft cover and it improved my mileage by between 2 and 3 MPG, but has no weight to it. Think about it, 10 pounds compared to 100 or more for the hard cover. For mileage go tonneau first, for performance go filter.
