Default Tranny Filter

Hey fellas.

It has been around 1500 miles on the brand spanking new tranny, and I would like to change the fluid/filter and adjust the bands and TV cable. I FINALLY found Vavoline ATF+4 Synthetic for sale around here. I was wondering what kind of brands of tranny filters you guys like to use? I have one already, its the cheezy autozone no name brand with the cork gasket. I was wondering what filter I should use when I switch to the ATF+4 Syn? Any input would be great! Thanks!

I have the cheezy one from Advance. Napa has pretty good quality control. I'll probably go with theirs next time around.

Ya, compared to the other parts stores like Checker, Autozone, and Advanced Auto, I think NAPA is about the best for quality. They always have good warranties too and more core deposit items then other stores do. I refuse to go to Checker anymore. I've had way to many problems with bad parts, wrong parts, and poor service with them.

Another nice thing about NAPA is that you can check prices and availability of parts on their website. I just saved around $20 because their website showed they had different brands of speed sensors for my car. When I went to the store, the parts man only gave me one option, the more expensive one. When I told him their website showed others, he checked again and was able to order the other one. I've only been using them for a few months, but have been impressed with their service. They keep a lot of parts on stock or can get them the next day. I know other users recommend parts from them such as oil filters (they use Wix), rotors, thermostats, etc. I did get a transmission filter from them for my Spirit. I'm no expert on filters, but it seemed well made and matched right up to the old one. Also, if they still have that offer going on, you can take an old hat into the store and they will give you a new NAPA racing hat. I got one and it's pretty nice.

I just got back from kitting the Napa kit. It is supposed to be for the 46RE but on it it says its for the 42RE. The item number matches the one on the website. Will it still work?

Just checked the napa website. The tranny filter kit is the same for the 42RE and 46RE. The gasket looks like some sort of rubber material

Bah, I hate those rubber ones more than the cork ones...you musn't overtorque it at all...the design of it is to swell from being in contact with the fluid...I would personally got to the dealer or o.e. parts online and get an o.e. reuseable gasket, can't really mess it up with the torque limiters in there.

Im not spending anymore money so i hope the rubber one will do. If i can't find the valvoline ATF+4, how much you reckon the dealer will charge for Mopar ATF?
