tonneau remote lift
ok so i was looking around the web at auto stores.. come on folks ya know you do it too... and i found something interesting that someone was talking about doing a while ago.
it's a remote tonneau lifting system. basically what we had thought about with linear actuators or pneumatics.

RE: tonneau remote lift
The one thing about them actuators, like most 12V linears, is they are slow. Strong as all hell, but when I got one off ebay (looks like the same one in the post above) I was surprised how frigen slow it was! I rigged up a 28V system to see if it would do any better, and it did, a little bit, but not enough for me to use it for anything I wanted to. It's sitting in the garage right now. LOL

yeah all motor driven actuators are slow because of the need for torque not speed. it's all in the gearing. you can make it go faster but it won't have the same amount of power that it did.
i don't know the internals so i can't say what ya'd have to do to make it faster, but putting more juice to it isn't the best idea. gonna fry motors that way.

yeah it could take that long or longer. i don't know the speeds so i don't know exact times, but knowing that motor trying to drive that amout of weight. it could take ten minutes. if you ever saw Pimp My Ride (COUGH COUGH SHIOT COUGH COUGH) they did a door slid out on one of the shows and they had to do time lapse so they could fit it on the show. so if that tells ya anything it could very well take a while for it to work.
