Default dash/airbag question

I looked in the service manual "merry christmas" and im trying to take off my cupholder but it says before i do anything i have to do this

WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIRBAGS,
DISABLE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM BEFORE
ATTEMPTING ANY STEERING WHEEL, STEERING
COLUMN, OR INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENT
DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. DISCONNECT AND ISOLATE
THE BATTERY NEGATIVE (GROUND) CABLE,
THEN WAIT TWO MINUTES FOR THE AIRBAG SYSTEM
CAPACITOR TO DISCHARGE BEFORE PERFORMING
FURTHER DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. THIS
IS THE ONLY SURE WAY TO DISABLE THE AIRBAG
SYSTEM. FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS
COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG
DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL
INJURY.

does that just mean to disconect the battery for 2 min before i start to work on it?

Just remove teh fuse for the bags, then turn the key to the on position. The airbag light should be on now. Then shut it off and go about your work. When you're done, reverse. But dont remove or install the fuses with th evehicle on.

You shouldn't have to worry about the airbag disarming...I just had mine out to lube that squeaky bastard up...4 screws I think and no signs of any airbag wiring around once it was off.

STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN, OR INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENT
The cupholder isn't part of any of those...instrument panel refers to the gauge cluster.
