im guessing the motor didnt come pre run? i think your suppost to let it idle for 30 mins. try looking on like edelbrocks web site. i think they have all the instructions on there how to do it. or they did anyway.

heres what it says on there site...

ENGINE AND CAMSHAFT RUN-IN: It is important when running engine in not to allow engine to
run under 2,000 RPM for the first ½ hour. Make sure all fluid levels are topped off and all line and
hoses are hooked up correctly. This is also a good time to look for leaks of any kind.

well we just got done breakin in a motor and hears what you do, first and most importand make sure you have everything tight we found out the hard way lots of coolent everywhere, after the motor is runnin set the idle and 2,000 rpms and run it for 20-30mins DO NOT WALK AWAY anything can happen, afterwards drive the vehicle for about fifty miles DO NOT BEAT IT just a causual drive and then change the oil, you can now go back to every 3,000 miles but i'd change it after another 1000, just keep it easy on your motor for the first couple hundred miles and you should be good.
Also re tighned and check any bolts that would heat up after the fifty miles (ex. manifold bolts)

If you have roller lifters there is no need to keep the RPM up for a period of time. If a flat tappet cam then yes, keep RPM up.[sm=americanasmiley.gif]
