got the motor in and everthing is great no leaks so far just need a timing light
but what should the timing be at? will i run into any problems with setting it by the distribter?

The PCM sets the timing, its not adjustable. Twisting the distributor will adjust the fuel sync signal (injector timing). Needs to be set with a scan tool. Think on the Snap On tool its listed as cam fuel sync signal or something similar to that. With the engine running at 1000rpms to take out valve train fluctuations the signal should be between 0 degrees and 4degrees advanced so the injectors fire at the correct time. Just have to twist the distributor slightly till you get it right. If the signal is a negative # it will run like a dog. After installing a new cam in mine it was crap till I fine tuned the fuel sync.
so if i get it so its at 4 deg advanced i should be fine?
so i take it to a place that has the scan tool to do it correctly?
is the dealer the best guess for that?

Stock cam, set it lower, 1 degree advance on average (# could bounce by 1 degree +/- roughly) You dont want to see a negative #.
Big cam I would set it for 4 degree advanced on average.
I took mine to my parts guys shop and borrowed his scanner. Ive heard some complain about dealers not being able to set it or even knowing what they were talking about when requesting it done.
