94 Ram 1500 4x4 Tranny cooling lines?
Hey All:
On my 94 Ram 1500 4x4 w/ 5.9lt. My tranny cooling line is leaking. I'm guessing it is on the return as it drips rather than spray as it might if on the pressure side. Anyone got any BTDT advise? Can I just cut out the leak & hose clamp a rubber line? Or should I replace with new? (Not sure how long I will keep it, the truck's got 190K on it).
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bob

Where is it leaking? Is it from a split line or a fitting? A fitting can be tightened down, or pull it apart and apply some PFTE tape (the thin white tape) to the threads. If it a split line, yes you can cut out that section and install a piece of rubber hose. Just make sure the hose is rated for transmission use. There is some amount of pressure in both of the lines. BTW what is BTDT?
Thanks Ash:
I found the leak it was the low pressure side return tube. Rotted away where it clamps to the frame. I cut out the rotted section & put in a compression line & fitting.
FYI the "BTDT" stands for "Been There Done That"
Thanks
