i just bought my fist dodge but thats besides the point. well my girlfriend wants to buy a used 99 1500 club cab with a 5.2 but it has a little over 180000miles on it. even thought the truck was well taken care of i dont trust but how does this engine really go? any help would be good help.

engines are solid, the automatic trans' suck though and alot of them get replaced frequently. mine seems fine with 162k on it though, so who knows

I agree, I have seen Dodge motors go for 500,000 before being replaced, its really up to the owner how he/she cares for the motor. I have no issues with their tranny's either, just how you take care of it. They can get to be a nickle and dime thing with all the sensors that go to hell, as with any vehicle, but still wont equal a new car payment every month.
Last November I bought a Ram with 99,000 miles on it, now has 106,000 the thing runs like a tank, I plan on keeping it forever its such a good engine. [sm=gears.gif]

I have a 1996 Ram with a 5.2 and the engine is mechanically fine.
No valve tap, clanking or clunking.
Still feels strong to me.
