Dana 60 front rotors/hub assembly
Replaced my u-joints, ball joints and tie rod ends. When I was taking off my front rotors, they would not separate from the hub assembly. I removed the rotor and bearings together. Any tips on how to separate the bearing from the rotor. They don't want to budge but I haven't bought in the big guns yet as I don't want to destroy the bearings. Also could the rotors be turned with the hubs attached to the rotors?
Hmm, iirc, they should just come off, maybe a little Blaster and some hammer whacks in between the studs...my 01 2500 w/Dana 60, that's how it is. Some Chevys, the studs all need pounded out to remove it, but I don't think Dodge did that, I may be wrong tho. And the equipment I have at work, they cannot be turned with the hub together.
get a large flat punch and a big hammer, and hit in between the studs on the face of the rotor where the wheel sits. Work your way from one side to the other. Also some brakes rotors have a retaining clip that slides over the stud to hold the rotor on during assembly at the factory.
Thanks to Spike and 5L. Seems the earlier Rams pressed the rotors onto the lugs. I removed the clips and tried to tap and pull with a wheel puller. I successfully removed the right side but left half the bearing behind. Tapped it out and reattached the halves. Someone at pavement sucks said the '97's and earlier have to be pounded or pressed out on the lugs. I have a press and will give it a try Monday and will post the results. Thanks again.
