Noise from under Tcase shifter boot?Common??
I got my truck back tonight from the stealership for the Cat recall.Anyways its done and I got it for free[8D]Now since I dont hear rattling constantly I was driving with the windows up listening for noises etc since I havent had the truck very long. The only noise I hear which at first I thought it was the speedo cable in the dash making that whoosh sound.Seems like its coming from below the 4x4 shifter or Tcase. It isnt terribly loud and maybe its common on these trucks. At low speeds you do not really hear it.When you speed up it sounds just like what I described.A slight rubbing woosh.I know in jeeps if you hear a noise like that its usually the Tcase chain having slop in it.But this sound isnt as loud at all and I am just nervous with this new truck and I want to have everything right.Any input would be cool. Thanks!
Can you describe the noise? I have an annoying rattling noise that's not consistent so Im thinking its not that cat but rather a TSB regarding the transmission shifter linkage. Hope this helps
Someone on here a while back had one of the bolts that hold the T-case shifter loose that was causing it to rattle. Doubt that would cause a woosh sound though.
The best way I can tell you what it sounds like is this.Take a ink pen put it in a paper cup,Then swish it around the edge real fast. Its a dry grinding sound. But its very very low noise. If you dont have an ear for mechanical things the normal person probably wouldnt hear it.
The noise is definatly from the Tcase. It goes up with speed and less when you slow. But its been 2 days now and I think its normal operation because its not very loud at all.I am going to check the fluid today however to rule that out
