Default Front Crank Oil Seal

Hi. Im having trouble installing the front oil seal. Ive already gone through two seals trying to get it in. Steve has been helping me but I have not still been able to get it in. Does anyone have any advice to get it in? Im replacing the timing chain so the timing cover is removed from the block. Anyone know If i go to the dealer they will loan me the tool thats in the service manual? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Up here we have Crappy Tire n Auto Zone that both have tool lending services. Should be something like that where you live hopefully. What are you using to seat it?

I tried using this tool from autozone as well as a small piece of wood. Both did the same thing. One side of the seal would go in and the rest would just kind of spin around

Make sure the edges are clean/smooth, coat the edges with a little grease and a socket or block just the right size to hit the seal just right. If it starts to tilt, work on the high side. Sometimes a little patience and thoughtfull precise impacts will get it in. Once one side drops in and the roll game starts it will usually not go since the high side is above the edge. If it continues to roll around, take it out and try the initial impact again. Lube is your friend.
