'01 Ram Headlight Switch dash light
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram Quad cab. My problem is, the dash light that illuminates the headlight switch is burned out. I went to several different auto parts stores, they all suggested the dealership. I stopped by the dealership & they said "we only sell this as an assembly" at $67.00 for the headlight assembly..........complete with the little light screwed into the back of it.
A discription of the offending light: It's a LED mounted on a plastic stalk that inserts into the back of the headlight switch. Bare wires from the light travel down the plastic stalk coming out the end & wrap around the "head" of the stalk. (Imagine a roofing nail with the head of the nail the part that the wires comes through)
The dealership told me they didn't have a stock number for the lamp assy. I went to Radio Shack & purchased a 12volt LED, but it doesn't work (after spending about 45 minutes fishing the wires through the stalk). So I'm back to looking for a new lamp that will illuminate my headlight switch.
Other than going to a junk yard, does anyone have any suggestions where to find such a thing?
Thanks,
Mark

What, 31 "Looky-Looky" & no answers?
I know somebody has a source of a light bulb for a headlight switch. Even if it's one I have to use to "build" a new light.
Radio Shack bulbs won't work, because there is a little dab of glue at the end of the bulb/wires. And the wires are insulated, but I stripped that off to fit the bulb holder.
Would like to know voltage & amperage assigned to the circuit. Then I could find some sort of bulb to fit..........I hope. Better yet, a source for the light bulb/holder from Chrysler.

well all of us would've sent you to the junk yard. best place to find parts like that. or get a multimeter and figure out the volts and amps.
sorry but i gotta say the graveyard is the best place to go.

I have the whole switch If you want it, the foglight part doesnt work d/t a missing clip on the end actuator rod, but the rest is in great working order. If your interested in it let me know, I will get rid of it for $22.00 that includes shipping. Email is bamory@bright.net
Didn't know that about the LED polarity.
Junk yard is probably the best way to go though. I just hate the idea of replacing the whole switch, just because the dash light doesn't work.
Bamory, thanks for the offer. But for now, I will try the junk yard to find one.
Thanks guys, that helps.
