Default DIY window tint

well i desided there is no way in hell im paying 200 for window tint when some cop in a bad mood could make me rip it right off and if i ever smash out my window wheeling or something i wont have to worry about it. I picked up this DIY kit from autozone and i was very pleased with the results. the best part about the style i got is that its a static cling and thees no adhesives in it. you can also pull it right off and put it back on agian so its reusable. i like this better then the regular window tint because its you can crumple it into a ball and pull it apart agian and still use it. I got too different levels. i got 20% VLT for the front windows and 5% VLT for the rear windows. first thing i did was clean the windows VERY well. first i started off with windex and some towels, then i scraped the entire window with a razor knife. then went back over it agian to make sure its super clean. you have to do this on the outside and inside of the window. ( you really dont have to worry about the scraping on the outside) then i unrolled the tint and held it up to the window. used a scissor to cut it alittle over. then you have to remove the paper from the back of the tint. Next apply the tint with the darker metallic side out on the outside of the window. Then take a VERY shape razor knife and cut the tint to fit in the window. go really slow and try to make the cuts as straight as possible. now remove the tint and lay it down where its not going to get dirty. next go to the inside of the window and wipe it down with a lint free cloth. i used my mirco fiber cloth that i just washed. the spray on the window a fine mist of water/ baby shampoo mixture. this alows the tint to slide around so its easy to move into place. Now apply the tint and push with your fingers on the edges to get them into the corner. the next thing you want to do is take a squeegee and push the water out of the tint. i also used a plastic bondo scraper as it works better. push all the water out towards the side so there are no bubbles in it and it looks perfectly smooth. Now let it sit and dry. ( dont open your windows until its dry) when its dry you can trim any extra tint. it says to let it dry from 24 hours to 48 hours. although mine was drie within 4 hours. ( i let the truck sit running with the heat on.)

things you need...
window tint, Gila static cling
razor knife
scraper and/or squeegee
razor blade
lint free towel
paper towels
cleaning agent
and i used rubber gloves to not get finger prints on it.

total time was about 4 hours or so taking my time. ( not including drying)

I hate window tinting, I get so pissed at the bubbles and then with the beer drinking while me and my friends do it. Well it never seems to turn out right. So I just befriended a local window tinter and detailed some of his car for 20% on the front.

I dont have any bubbles in mine. if you do it right you shouldnt get any. as for the door panel. i pulled it off months ago to put the new speakers in. i got the new retainer things from autozone and there never seemed to work as good as the factory ones. every time i flexed the truck the door panel would fall off. or if it gets slammed. I have to get some mopar ones but i asked them for 4 and they wanted 10 buxs for them [:@]
its back on now. until the next time it falls off.
