Default RE: Wheel Size

I'm not planning on lifting the truck it just dosen't make sense with 2wd(to me that is),but not dropping it either, and I've decided to go with 4.56 gears so that I don't have to worry about the power loss issue. I can live with the rougher ride, due to the thinner tire. 305 an indicator for tire width and 40 is for height. I might be mistaken but the overall diameter wheel/tire and weight are the main issues that I need be concerned with during my planned upgrade. Here the link for the rims they're the black and chrome

Thanks again for all of the advice guys.

you might want to find out the diameter of the tire before you buy it.. 305's wont even fit a ram 4x4 stock.. let alone a 2wd

305/40s will fit no problem. Like the link says, they're barely 32" in diameter. The sidewall is a LOT shorter on them. You have to look at ALL the numbers

305/75/16 are around 34-35" in diameter.

Now if he was trying to put on 305/75/22s...those definitely wouldn't fit. They're somewhere around 40" in diameter. [8D]

so why are 315/75/16 bigger then 285/75/16?? mine are 33's and my buddys are almost 35's.. if the 2nd number is the sidewall width then they should be the same size tires just eh 315 would be wider.. but i also heard that the 1st number is like the ratio of the height to width or something like that.. 285's would be smaller and skinnier then 315's

Yeah I've notice that also( a guy explained the ratio thing to me to but I forgot and was hoping someone here could recall it), but from what I've noticed the bigger the diameter the bigger the width of the side wide wall eg...###/40/20 would be a bigger sidewall vs ###/20/16......do yall think that they'll look good on the ram, I don't quite like the all chrome look that much

Also on another note maybe I should start another thread but should I go ahead and do my performance upgrades along with the gears which could also be considered a performance upgrade, I plan on full exhaust, headers, bent mandrel, high flow cat and flowmaster 40 series. With a performance PCM of some sort(still need to do my research) and a fastman TB. Then do the rims and tires because I can get most of that done with the money that I'm going to spend on them, then just save up again for the rims. (One of the advantages of working offshore in the oilfield....lots of time to save money)
Thanks again all of the advice and opinions are appreciated

I could explain it, but this page already does an excellent job....why re-invent the wheel? [8D]: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...e.jsp?techid=7

What year is your truck? That will be the determining factor on what is available for you.

It's a 2000...so you'd be best off going with a programmer (either Hypertech or Superchips) instead of a PCM.

X/Y/Z is how i'm going to say the tire size..

X is the width in millimeters
Y is a percentage of the width for the sidewall
Z is the rim in inches

so a 285/75/16 is 32.8" tire. hence a 33.
