Default noobie needing help with ideas...

Hey y'all...new guy here with some questions about the 3.9 V6. I don't really know of much to do performance wise to this truck. The V8's seem to have an endless supply. Any recommendations??? I would really like some more power, but I'm open to suggestions. Just graduated college, got a job and got some money burning a hole in my pocket. Thanks guys.

I dont know if they make them for the v6, but look into a hpertech computer re-programmer.

Ummm, Don't mean to be a jerk but like you said V8 is so much better. My friend dumped a bunch of money into his V6 Dak. CAI, Exhaust, Programmer and some other minor stuff. He wanted to raise down his road. Well after a 1/4 mile I was over a truck legnth in front of him and at the time all I had was a cat back exhaust.

no I totally understand, but I would like more power, but I would also like to get better gas mileage...and thinking about it I would much rather have the better gas mileage than the power. I already know that the TB spacers are crap, my dad got suckered into one of those with his durango. Let's forget about power for now, what about improving gas mileage, any ideas?

thanks

Fastman Throttle Body: http://www.thefastman.com/index.asp

K&N Full Intake of some sort. It would do MUCH more for performance/mileage than the drop-in. I'm not sure if K&N makes one, but that's something to check into. I'm sure there are other companies out there that make intakes for the 3.9 as well.

I'm afraid I don't have much advice for you as I'm not real familiar with the motor (other than it's a 318 (5.2) with 2 cylinders cut out of the casting).

I have to agree, anything you try to do to up the HP is just going to drain your wallet. Save the cash and get a new truck if you want speed. Just remember...the V8s take ALOT of gas to run on a daily basis!

yeah i decided with my V8 (the 360) that i would just move into the apartment above the gas station... park it there overnight get it filled up.. then be good to go the next day... and then the process would just start over again.

yeah about the performance mods for the v6... as far as i've ever seen there aren't a whole lot. but if you can find stuff getting it breathing better will help no matter what engine you got. that means CAI, TB, and exaust. Dan the Fastman probably would make you up a TB for pretty decent prices.

oh an electric fan swap might help out too. those drain about 6-8 hp. tonneau cover, or canopy would help too.

but really if you want to run hard and fast.. you're gonna have to pick up a V8.

though if i remember correctly some time ago someone posted about getting V8 numbers out of a V6... that was in a Dakota though i think.
