Default bubbles on auto tranny dipstick ?

I just did a routine check of my transmission fluid level this AM....

engine and tranny were hot as the dipstick specified.

I have bubbles on the dipstick.....like the fluid is foaming....

Does this indicate an overfill? It's very hard to get an actual fluid reading right now.....everytime I pull the dipstick out you can not see a "line" where the fluid is.....just red at the bottom and foamy bubbles 2 inches above the MAX line.

....should I take a cold reading?

1996 1500, 5.9L, 2wd, 194,000

Any advice?

thanks,
Chris

Foam on the dipstick usually means the transmission fluid or engine oil is overfilled. Did you or anybody recently fill the transmission? If so my bet is an overfill. Draining kinda sucks unless you have a self installed drain plug.
